![]() ![]() I have one of these with a 28,XXX serial number from the 4th quarter of the year. The Controller of Proof was Couchant Louis who used the mark *M from 1923-1952. The pistol with the on the front left of the trigger guard is from 1950, in the third quarter of the year, at least for the frame. but you must show us photos of what you find! you can search various parts for a closer time frame. I will include an image of a date code chart. I believe it was stamped by Fuchs Jacques and is from 1960-1962 or so, a period when the "thumbprint/scallop" had been eliminated from the right side of the slide, yet was still fitted with the original internal extractor. It was also used by Fuchs Jacques from 1960-1968. This mark was used by Controller of Proof Charlier Hubert from 1923-1953. They were often not sequential and sometimes used more than once due to specifications of a contract. It is difficult to discern a production year from serial numbers on these older pistols. What great fun!!!īoth pistols are post-war Classic High Powers. And I could be wrong, but this is my best guess from viewing a dozen or so examples, all by photograph except for mine.Īs we make informed guesses to the age of these post-war pistols, I hope we will one day accurately decode all of the various markings. it's only a matter of three months difference in age. It seems to be one of few years this mark was on the left side of the trigger guard and the only one that is upside down. I have seen a number of 1950 pistols (including a sale at Mosin Crate today) which exhibit this odd marking feature. you must read it properly with the slide down/trigger guard up. Orienting the mark to the period, the mark is clearly upside down. I have a 1950 on which this mark is quite well struck. If you continues the side "up" just a bit, there might be room for the period. The lower part of the mark is more firmly struck than the upper part, as it appears on the trigger guard, so I presume the period is un-struck on the upside down zero. ![]() Per the chart, there should be a period to the lower right of the zero. ![]()
